Kids Poems

One of the greatest joys of having two sons, separated by 25 years (!), has been the opportunity to revisit the fantastic and colorful worlds created by writers like Dr. Seuss, Mark Twain, and Douglas Adams. Kid’s books are like mind candy, dripping with clever prose, populated with delightful characters, and, for the younger crowd, full of lovely pictures as colorful and engaging as the works of Kandinsky, Picasso, Klee, or Van Gogh. For a feeling of utter contentment, I find nothing can beat my six-year-old sitting with me on a pile of pillows, whilst we both enjoy his bedtime story. This week we’re reading an absolutely riveting and beautiful tale called Luka and the Fire of Life, by Salman Rushdie, and we are both a little disappointed when I come to the end of a chapter and announce that it’s bedtime—“No, dad, read me some more.”
