apart from the fact that its impossible to slowly lower a jewie down on a release weight,it doesnt benefit the fish by doing so anyway.also,i dont know how many jewie swim bladders youve seen but i can assure you that they arnt made from some thin membrane thats easily punctured, they arn't quite like a sherrin football, but they are fairly robust.sure they expand and cause the stomach to come out of the mouth but you would have to really wind em up hard to cause any tearing.you obviously only fish shallow so therefore the vast majority of the fish you release will go back o.k,thats great,BUT if you were in say 40 metres of water where its still pretty easy to release fish, the release weight not only offers the immediate recompression we talked about before, but also reduces the risk of predation on a disorientated jewie on its way back home.the other issues you raise such as gas bubbles in the brain and stuff has been done to death by max previously and again the only solution is recompression.do a search of the forum on my replies to this topic because i've said it all before.
