Kiyak
passed away on May 6, 2011 after a three -year battle with breast
cancer. Dr. Kiyak, a psychologist with a specialty in gerontology was a
career-long advocate for the health of elders with a particular focus
on their oral health and oral health-related quality of life. She was a
professor in the School of Dentistry at the University of Washington
(UW), Director of the University’s Institute on Aging, and was adjunct
professor in the Departments of Psychology and Architecture. For many
years, she was on the faculty of the Department of Community Dentistry
and the Department of Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Kiyak’s dental
public health legacy includes her commitment to scholarship, research,
mentoring and community outreach.
