Cherubfish
Oh, there's a precedent for multi-allele gene complexes being
responsible for various traits, one I'm particularly fond of ... namely,
the Rhesus factor in humans. The genetic underpinnings for this were
determined by one Cyril Clarke, a former member of my Entomology
Society, who had previously worked out a similar mechanism underpinning
the inheritance of mimetic wing patterns in female Papilio dardanus
butterflies, and used the connection to direct the research into
treatment for Perinatal Rhesus Haemolytic Disease. For which he was
knighted, and won the 1980 Lasker Award.
